The Salten, the high plateau for active aficionados

• Jenesien - Langfenn - Jenesien

  Departing from Edelweiß inn, we will walk uphill along a wide trail. After about half an hour we will reach Salto/Salten, distinguished by its extensive meadows and larch forests. Passing the next inn on our left side, we will be travelling along the European long-distance hiking trail E5. Thereafter we will turn left past Rabenbühel and enjoy the panoramic view of Sciliar, Sasso Lungo and Rosengarten mountain opening up to the southwest. Over the Langfenn meadows we will finally reach Langfenn (1526 m).

  After refreshment we will return to San Genesio over the same route.

• Jenesien village

  San Genesio - Edelweiß - Tschaufenhaus - Locher - San Genesio

  50 m above the church in San Genesio/Jenesien you will reach a road crossing. To the right, the road leads to the Edelweiß inn. Taking the left turn past the upper end of the residential complex, we will reach the E-trail. From there a narrow road leads towards Langfenn and reaches a fork after a short difference in height. Turning to the left, we will follow path no. 7. Crossing the larch meadows past a farmhouse, we will reach the more highly situated forest path (with a slight inclination to the left at a crossing, at an old larch tree, straight ahead) leading to the Tschaufer Weiher (sheltered biotope) and further on to the Tschaufenhaus. Sign no. 2 leads us eastwards to Wieserhof farm and further along a gravel road to Locher. After a short detour over the meadows, a beautifully situated forest trail (L-trail) turns to the left, crosses the Fagenbach river and leads us back to San Genesio.

  Impressive scenery, particularly in spring, with gentian and anemones lining the Alpine meadows, and in the autumn when the larch trees change colour.

  Starting from the parking place, walk past the sports field and the riding grounds to your right up to the hiking path no. 33. From there you will continue to Saltner Edelweiss inn and further on along path no. 1 (resp. E5) over the Salto/Salten high plateau. The Fairy-Tail Hiking Trail starts at Saltner Höhe.

  Enjoy this tour at all seasons of the year: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The directions are easy to follow and well marked.

• Tomanegger and Salto/Salten

  Follow sign 30 from Oberdorf (Upper Village)in San Genesio/Jenesien over a tarred road, and, turning left, at first steeply uphill, then more or less through forests and meadows, past farms on to Tomanegger inn (1328 m). From there further on through larch meadows westward up to Salto. Along path no.1 to Edelweiß inn (1350 m) and along path no. 33 southeastward back to San Genesio.
